Introduction to the Canal Town Project in Sui and Tang Dynasties

The Sui-Tang Canal Ancient Town Project is an actual action of Anhui Tourism Group to actively implement the decision-making and deployment of the provincial Party Committee and the provincial government to "construct the historical and cultural tourism belt of northern Anhui and build a world heritage tour". It is also a specific practice of Anhui Tourism Group to echo the goal of Huaibei Municipal Committee and the municipal government to realize the transformation and rise of Huaibei in the implementation of the five new concepts, as well as the provincial tourism. Tourism group innovates tourism product development model, enriches tourism product system, and promotes the integration of cultural tourism development as a strategic measure.

The Old Town Project is located at the intersection of Changshan Road and Nanli Road in Huaibei City, covering an area of about 523 mu, with a planned total construction area of 600,000_and a total investment of about 2.5 billion yuan. Rooted in the splendid civilization of Sui and Tang Dynasties, deep historical culture of northern Anhui and Huaibei, the architectural form of the whole project is based on the ancient style of folk houses in Sui and Tang Dynasties, with the canal culture as its core, and combined with the regional culture of Huaibei and the cultural characteristics of Sui and Tang Dynasties, forming the ancient town's romantic leisure area, visiting experience area, core performing arts area, tourist service area, Grand Canal garden, canal family, etc. Many functional zones, such as the residential Inn area, will be constructed, including Wufeng Sange Pavilion, Water Mirror Platform, Yuanchendian Hall, Yuelao Temple, Tugboat Weir, Caocangyan Gate and other landmark scenic spots, which are rich in cultural and historical elements.

The Old Town Project of the Ouwu Canal upholds the characteristics of Sui and Tang Dynasties, which are represented by Wufeng Sange and the architecture of Sui and Tang Dynasties. It perfectly uses the Dougong, Beam Frame, Sargasso Well, Carved Flowers, Double eaves Hall, Double eaves and Heavy Barriers, and the overlapping architectural symbols of Sui and Tang Dynasties. It shows the historical skeleton of ancient and modern times and the grand atmosphere of Sui and Tang Dynasties, giving people a strong artistic shock, and its unique Sui and Tang Dynasties. The architectural style of Tang Dynasty will become the tourism landmark of Huaibei city, and become the tourism cultural card, the city living room and the cultural image window of Huaibei city.

Ancient town blocks are planned as well-known movie and television functional areas of Sui and Tang Dynasties, which highlight the open, compatible and commonplace Huaibei Canal culture and the well-known customs of Sui and Tang Dynasties. There are all kinds of restaurants, tea houses, shops and stages in the blocks. The stores display all kinds of facades in the wind, and the distinctive commodities are dazzling. They present a splendid name of ancient town, which is actually a cultural tourist living area with the features of Sui and Tang Canal towns.

At present, as the only selected tourism project in Huaibei, the Sui and Tang Canal Town was awarded the National Tourism Bureau "List of Optimal Tourism Projects 2016" and "Central New Film and Television Base" and "Anhui Radio, Film and Television Industry Park" in September 2018, and was named the National AAA Scenic Area. In the process of honor evaluation, the infrastructure of the ancient town tends to be improved. The scenic spot of "Wufeng Sange" which is the city's symbol and image building has been put into trial operation at the end of September 2016 and is open to the outside world free of charge. Opening the street at the end of December 2017, a total of 2.4 million visitors were received in 2018. Construction of Grand View Garden of the Canal and Tang Qianli started in October 2018, and the overall project is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

Around the goal of national AAAA tourism scenic spot construction, in terms of tourism brand construction, Sui-Tang Canal Town will rely on Sui-Tang historical culture, Grand Canal culture, Huaibei regional culture, folk culture and other tourism resources to create a brand of cultural and commercial tourism town with regional characteristics.
